No class again tonight. =o(
But I did take measurements last weekend so I have some fun stats to share...
2/1/09
Weight: 223.0
BMI: 33.0
Bust: 43"
Waist: 38"
Hip: 49.5"
Bicep: 15"
Thigh: 24"
Calf: 16"
3/28/09
Weight: 211.0 - 12 lbs lost!
BMI: 31.1 - almost 2 points lost
Bust: 40" - 3 inches lost!!!
Waist: 36" - 2 inches lost!!
Hip: 46" - 3.5 inches lost!!!!
Bicep: 14" - 1 inch lost (x2)
Thigh: 23" - 1 inch lost (x2)
Calf: 15" - 1 inch lost (x2)
So I only lost 12 pounds in 8 weeks. However - thanks to the magic of Bikram Yoga - my body mass index dropped almost 2 points and I lost more than 14.5 inches!!! That is a cause for celebration. I wish that my waist was shrinking faster than my bust. But I can see that what I'm doing - however imperfectly - IS WORKING. ;))

That's great progress. I wonder if you could get a decent skin caliper of body fat percentage? It's a much better basis for evaluating progress than BMI. In BMI the only variables are hight and weight, so unless you are getting taller, the progress is just a mathematical variation on weight loss. Also, BMI is notoriously unreliable. For example, according to it Michael Jordan was obese when he was winning all those championships, even though he had less than 5% body fat. And yes, I realize that most people are not like Michael Jordan, but I still think the blunt averages of the BMI can be very misleading.
ReplyDeleteThose are really impressive stats, Ellen. Wow! I'm a big believer in measuring inches lost vs. pounds lost, so I like that you're charting that progress, too.
ReplyDeleteBravo! :)
